Terms of use
Plain English on purpose. This is what you agree to by using the board, and what we promise in return.
1. What this is
OK, team. is a public noticeboard for free get-togethers in public places on the Eastern Shore of Hobart. It is run by a local GP and volunteers, at cost, with no advertising, no subscriptions and no accounts for browsing. We list things. We do not organise, supervise or run the things listed, and we are not present at them.
2. Looking is free and needs nothing from you
Anyone can read the board. You do not need an account, and we do not collect anything about you when you browse. Our privacy promises are part of these terms.
3. Who can post
- You must be 18 or over to post a notice.
- You must verify an Australian mobile number. We store it encrypted and release it only to police or a court on a lawful request. It is never shown to anyone.
- You are responsible for what you post and for the happening you describe.
- Happenings aimed at people under 18 may only be posted by organisations we have verified, whose hosts hold Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People.
4. What you may post
A notice describes something free, open to anyone, at one of the listed public places, that you would be doing anyway and that others are welcome to join. It must be truthful and it must actually happen as described, or be taken down by you if it will not.
5. What you may not post
- Anything that costs money to attend, or that sells, promotes or demonstrates a product, service, cause, candidate or religion.
- Links, phone numbers, email addresses, social media handles or any other way of contacting you or anyone else. Everything happens at the place, on the board.
- Anything at a private address, in a vehicle, or anywhere not on the list of public places.
- Dating, adult or "singles" meetups, or anything sexual.
- Anything involving alcohol as the point, illegal drugs, weapons, gambling or anything unlawful.
- Anything that vilifies, harasses or threatens a person or a group.
- Notices for people under 18 unless you are a verified organisation.
- Repeated, misleading or automated posting.
Notices are screened automatically and some are held for a person to look at before they appear. We can decline, hold, edit for accuracy, or take down any notice, and stop any number from posting, without notice and without giving a reason, though we usually will give one.
6. Going to something
You go at your own risk, as you would to any gathering in a public park. Use the same judgement you would anywhere: it is in public, in daylight or lit hours, with other people around, and you can leave whenever you like. If something feels wrong, leave and report the notice. If anyone is in danger, call 000.
7. Hosting something
Hosting here means being the person who said they would be there. You are not our employee, agent or volunteer, and you are not acting on our behalf. You are responsible for your own conduct and for meeting any rules that apply at the place, such as council rules for parks and reserves. You must not collect names, contact details or photographs of the people who come.
8. Businesses and organisations
A business may host a regular happening under the business pledge. A community organisation may be verified and post official notices under the organisation pledge. Each pledge is part of these terms for that business or organisation. Breaking it ends the listing. An organisation listing anything for people under 18 is solely responsible for that happening and for its people holding Registration to Work with Vulnerable People.
9. Your words
You keep ownership of what you write. You give us permission to show it on the board, to shorten it to fit, and to delete it. We delete notices shortly after they end.
10. What we do not promise
We do not promise that any happening will take place, that anyone will come, that the people who come are who they say they are, or that the board is always available or free of mistakes. Council and other official notices are copied from their websites and may be out of date; the linked page is the authority. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss or injury arising from a happening or from your use of the board. Nothing in these terms removes rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law.
11. Reports and disputes
Anyone can report a notice, anonymously. A person reads every report. If you think a decision about your notice was wrong, use the feedback page and say so; a person will read it.
12. Changes
We may change these terms. The date below moves when we do, and a meaningful change will be noted on the board for a month.
13. Law
These terms are governed by the law of Tasmania, Australia.
